A nice bird bone from the famous La Brae Tar Pits

The La Brea Tar Pits are famous for the huge assemblages of fossils found within them. During the Ice Age, asphalt pits formed when crude oil reached the Earth's surface acted as death traps, with herbivores becoming trapped along with the carnivores that came to feed on them.  Millions of fossils have been found, representing over 600 species, including mammoths, sabre-tooth cats, and an enormous variety of bird life and smaller land-based fauna.
